Q&A: Paul Grienke

Q: What is your role at SET SEG?

My role is serving our member schools for all needs related to the SEG Property/Casualty Pool and SEG Workers’ Compensation Fund.  As the Sales and Development Specialist, I advise superintendents and business managers of the stability of the programs as well as current and future trends that may impact Michigan schools – all with the goal of providing excellence in service and knowledge of school risk in this challenging environment.

Q: What do you like about your job?

I enjoy building meaningful relationships with school leaders, understanding their challenges, and providing recommendations that keep my work dynamic and rewarding.

Fifteen years ago I started as an Account Executive and have moved around in various positions since that time. I think being exposed to and working with other teams within the organization, like sales, underwriting, claims, marketing, and IT, has helped me better understand our capabilities and apply them in the best ways to serve the needs of Michigan schools.

Q: What does working at SET SEG mean to you?

There is great pride in working at an organization that does things the right way with a servant heart for each other and our member schools.  It’s been an amazing journey to see the growth and stability of the Property/Casualty Pool and Workers’ Compensation Fund and the continued effort to be the leaders in this space for all public schools.

Today’s risk environment is different from what it was 15, 10, or even 5 years ago, and we all need to continually level up to match the needs of our members. I have been fortunate enough to be part of the growth over the past 15 years and can confidently say we’ve never lost the singular focus of putting schools first.

Q: How do you feel like you make an impact through SET SEG?

I make an impact by building strong relationships and ensuring that our members receive the support, coverage, and resources they need.  With evolving needs and risk trends that affect Michigan schools, I help districts to understand and navigate their risk management programs. With the help and collaboration of all the team members at SET SEG, it allows me to support the long-term stability and success of the schools we serve, which in turn positively impacts students, staff, and communities.

A reflection of our success is that the schools in the Pool and Fund have remained loyal and stayed with SET SEG. It’s been a fun journey to be a part of!
