Leadership

  • Tim Averill

    Executive Director
    Email Tim Averill
    Timothy J. Averill serves as the executive director of SET SEG and is responsible for establishing the short- and long-term strategic direction of Michigan public school insurance programs.  Tim joined SET SEG in 1995 as controller and was promoted to the director of finance and corporate operations in 2002.  In 2006, Tim accepted the position of chief operating officer and was promoted to his current position in 2015 where he is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, providing strategic guidance and planning the investment approach for the organization. 

    Prior to joining SET SEG, Tim worked as CPA for Plante & Moran, LLC working with self-insured funds and non-profit organizations.  Tim graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in Business Administration and gained his certified public accountant certification in 1993. He is a member of both the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accounts and the Association of Governmental Risk Pools, the country’s foremost authority for public entity risk pooling.  

  • John Hagel

    Chief Operating Officer
    Email John Hagel
    John Hagel serves as chief operating officer for SET SEG, where he manages daily operations of senior staff and oversees development of measurement processes to ensure superior sales and marketing techniques and operational controls.  He joined SET SEG in 2012 as director of business development and brings more than 30 years of leadership experience.

    Prior to joining SET SEG, he served as superintendent of Shiawassee Regional Educational Service District and Clinton County Regional Educational Service Agency.
    John is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and holds advanced degrees in educational leadership from Central Michigan University.

  • Amy Guilford

    Chief Administrator PC Pool & WC Fund
    Email Amy Guilford
    Amy Guilford is the chief administrator of the Property/Casualty Pool and Workers’ Compensation Fund.  She began her career at SET SEG in 2007 as an underwriter.  In 2009, she was promoted to operations manager, one year later she took on the role of associate director before being promoted to her current position in 2016.  

    Prior to joining SET SEG, Amy served as an account executive and agency coordinator for an insurance agency specializing in workers’ compensation and property/casualty for the health care community.  Amy has more than 15 years in the insurance industry and is SET SEG’s representative for the Association of Governmental Risk Pools. Amy is a graduate of Northwood University.


  • Brian Flowerday

    Email Brian Flowerday
    Brian Flowerday serves as the chief administrator for SET SEG Employee Benefits Services. He joined SET SEG in 2005 to develop and manage the employee benefit programs offered to school districts. Today he helps oversee SET SEG’s employee benefits-related services and also supports SET SEG general strategic planning and implementation.

    Prior to joining SET SEG, Brian worked as a business consultant specializing in helping organizations improve effectiveness through process changes. He has more than 20 years of operational management experience and is a graduate of the University of Michigan College of Engineering.

  • Dennis Rogoszewski, CPA

    Chief Financial Officer

    Dennis Rogoszewski serves as the chief financial officer of SET SEG and is responsible for the overall financial management of the SET SEG companies, including corporate financial planning, investment and treasury management, corporate tax planning, risk management, and development of long range financial strategies.  He joined SET SEG in 2013, and brings over 30 years of financial experience to the SET SEG team.
    Prior to joining SET SEG, Dennis served Michigan public schools for over 18 years as associate superintendent of finance at Gratiot-Isabella RESD and director of finance and operations at Dewitt Public Schools.  Dennis is a graduate of Central Michigan University and has been a certified public accountant since 1989.  Dennis resides in DeWitt with his wife Sue and has three children, Ryan, Erik and Andrew.

  • Gary Holbrook

    Chief Information Officer

    Gary Holbrook serves as the chief information officer.  He is responsible for developing a proactive strategy for SET SEG’s technological internal and external services.  Since joining SET SEG in 2003 as a network administrator, he has been promoted to several positions including network programmer, supervisor of claims and enrollment and manager of business process development until being promoted to his current position in 2012.

    Prior to joining SET SEG, Gary worked for the State of Michigan and an IT consulting firm. He has served as an active volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters and ITEC, a Lansing-based group building excitement around careers in science, technology, engineering and math.  Gary received his bachelor’s from Baker and his master’s in business administration from Michigan State University.  

  • Lisa Truscott

    Chief Administrative Officer

    Lisa Truscott joined SET SEG in 2011 as marketing manager and was quickly promoted to chief of marketing and public relations before taking on her current role as chief administrative officer.  Lisa also service as the executive director of the SET SEG Foundation.  

    Prior to joining SET SEG, Lisa served as the executive director of the Michigan Children with Special Needs Fund, working to enhance the lives of children with disabilities and chronic health care needs throughout the state.  Lisa began her career working for the Governor for ten years where she served several roles, including civil rights and disability policy coordinator.  Lisa has more than 25 years of experience in policy and public relations.

  • Amy Maneval

    Amy Maneval serves as Controller of SET SEG. She is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the finance department. Amy joined SET SEG in 2003 as Assistant Controller and was promoted to her current role in 2010. 

    Prior to joining SET SEG, Amy worked as an accountant for a full service tax and accounting firm. She is a graduate of Central Michigan University.


  • Cathy Hungerford

    Administrative Services Manager

    Cathy Hungerford serves as the Administrative Services Manager. She joined SET SEG in 2012 as an account service representative and was quickly promoted to an enrollment and billing lead before acquiring her current position.

    Prior to joining SET SEG, Cathy worked as an accounts payable/benefits technician for Grand Ledge Public Schools for 13 years.  Her experience has helped us simplify the employee benefits billing and enrollment process for our members.  She graduated from Lansing Community College with an associate’s in business and enjoys serving as a volleyball official in her spare time. 

  • Janet Sluiter

    PC Claim Manager
    Email Janet Sluiter
    Janet Sluiter serves as Claim Manager for the Property/Casualty Pool and Workers’ Compensation Fund. She has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance claim industry and currently manages day-to-day operations for the property/casualty and workers’ compensation claim department while overseeing litigated cases. She joined SET SEG in 2009 as Assistant Claim Manager and was promoted to her current position in 2011. 

    Prior to joining SET SEG, Janet specialized in claims for Travelers Insurance and Aetna Casualty Insurance. She holds a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation and is a graduate of Michigan State University.

  • Jim DuRussel

    PC Claim Manager
    Email Jim DuRussel

    Jim DuRussel joined SET SEG in 2002 as the senior claim manager for the Property/Casualty Pool and Workers’ Compensation Fund. Jim has more than 35 years of experience in insurance, having worked for Great American Insurance Companies and Ohio Casualty Insurance Company in the field of claims prior to joining SET SEG.

    Jim is certified in General Insurance, has an Associates in Claims and is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter. He received his bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University.

  • Molly Mellema

    Associate Administrator PC Pool & WC Fund
    Email Molly Mellema
    Molly Mellema serves as the associate administrator of the Property/Casualty Pool and Workers' Compensation Fund. She joined SET SEG in 2013 as the property/casualty and workers’ compensation operations coordinator and in 2015 was promoted to operations manager before taking on her current role one year later.  

    Prior to joining SET SEG, Molly was an associate director for the Oregon School Activities Association. Molly received her bachelor's from the University of Montana and her master's from Gonzaga University.



  • Moranda Gowell

    Marketing Manager
    Email Moranda Gowell
    Moranda Gowell serves as marketing manager at SET SEG. She joined SET SEG in 2007 as a Human Resources Coordinator and Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer. She joined the marketing department in 2010 and was promoted to her current position in 2012. 

    Prior to joining SET SEG, Moranda was an account executive at a communications firm based in Las Vegas, Nevada. She has more than 10 years of experience in the field of public relations, marketing and advertising and is a graduate of the University of Missouri.

  • Rachael Feldpausch

    PC/WC Claim Department Manager

    Rachael Feldpausch joined SET SEG in 2015 as the claim department manager for property/casualty and workers’ compensation.  

    Rachael has more than 16 years of experience in the insurance industry.  Prior to Joining SET SEG  Rachael has held multiple roles both as a claims adjuster and claims manager.  Her experience in developing organizational procedures, efficient systems, and teambuilding makes her the ideal fit for SET SEG. 

  • Jessica Straub

    Client Support Manager Employee Benefit Services
    Email Jessica Straub
    Jessica Straub serves as Client Support Manager for Employee Benefit Services and is responsible for overseeing account service and legal liaison resources. Since joining SET SEG in 2014, Jessica has been very involved with developing and supporting SET SEG's Benefit Service offerings. Jessica graduated from Cooley Law School in 2013. After passing the Michigan bar, Jessica focused primarily on Employee Benefit law. 
  • Megan McNamara

    Human Resources Manager
    Email Megan McNamara

    Megan McNamara joined SET SEG in 2012 as marketing and communications intern. After graduating from Michigan State University in 2014, Megan was hired to join marketing department full time as a communications specialist. After working in that position for two years and developing personal relationships with staff from each department, Megan became human resources specialist and was quickly promoted to manager in 2017.

  • Paul Grienke

    Paul Grienke is the property/casualty and workers' compensation sales manager.  He joined SET SEG as an account executive in 2009 where he specialized in property/casualty and workers’ compensation for the Thumb, Central and South Central regions in Michigan and was promoted to his current position in 2015.  

    Paul has more than eight years of financial experience in the non-profit and corporate sectors as well as three years of experience working as a financial adviser.  He is a graduate of Hillsdale College.  



  • Scott Fritz

    Employee Benefits Account Executive and Member Support
    Email Scott Fritz
    Scott Fritz serves as Employee Benefits Account Executive and Member Support, and is responsible for providing and administering employee benefit services to school districts in the Thumb region and focuses on member retention activities. Prior to joining SET SEG in 2007, Scott worked as an investment specialist and field director at a Lansing-based financial services firm. He is a graduate of Michigan State University. 

  • Bob Donaldson

    Email Bob Donaldson
    Bob Donaldson serves as an account executive specializing in employee benefits for schools in mid and southeastern Michigan. He joined SET SEG in 2010. 

    Prior to joining SET SEG, Bob was an account executive in the benefits department of a Grand Rapids-based insurance firm. He is a graduate of Albion College, where he played football on the 1994 National Championship team.

  • Darci Muller

    Darci Muller serves as a property/casualty and workers’ compensation account executive for the west and southwest side of the state. Darci joined SET SEG in 2013 with more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry.  Darci is a licensed property/casualty producer.
  • Heather Menzies

    Heather Menzies has been a SET SEG employee benefits account executive since 2011. Heather has more than 10 years of experience in insurance account management and is a graduate of Michigan State University.
  • Derocher

    Jim Derocher

    EB and PC/WC Account Executive
    Email Jim Derocher
    Jim Derocher joined SET SEG in 2014 as an employee benefits, property/casualty and workers' compensation account executive for the Upper Peninsula.   
    Jim has had a long career in public education and served multiple roles in Michigan public school districts as a teacher, assistant high school principal, coach, athletic director, school board member and as the superintendent for Negaunee Public School District.  Jim also served on the MASB-SEG Property/Casualty Pool Board of Directors offering his extensive experience and expert guidance.  Jim has three degrees from Northern Michigan University– a  master’s in education administration, bachelor’s in secondary education and an education specialist degree in education administration. 
     

  • Logan Suttmann

    Email Logan Suttmann
    Logan Suttmann serves as an account executive specializing in employee benefits for schools in northern Lower Michigan and works from his hometown of Leland. He joined SET SEG’s sales team in 2012.

    Prior to joining SET SEG, Logan was an underwriter for an insurance firm specializing in collector car and boat insurance. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan.

  • Mike Kenney

    Email Mike Kenney
    Mike Kenney joined SET SEG in 2006 and is an account executive specializing in property/casualty and workers’ compensation in the northern Michigan area.  

    Mike has more than 30 years of experience in public schools having served as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent for general and vocational education and superintendent in the northern Michigan area.  He is a graduate of Michigan State University.

  • Sean Kribs

    Email Sean Kribs

    Sean Kribs has been a property/casualty and workers' compensation account executive since 2014.  Prior to becoming an account executive, Sean was a loss control representative for six years.  He originally joined the SET SEG team in 2005 as a facilities manager.

    Sean's previous roles within the organization and experience as a loss control representative make him the perfect addition to the SET SEG team of account executives. 

  • Travis Van Tighem

    Senior PC/WC Sales & Development Specialist
    Email Travis Van Tighem
    Travis Van Tighem joined SET SEG in 2005 as a property/casualty and workers’ compensation specialist.  Since then, he has been promoted to senior property/casualty and workers’ compensation sales and development specialist.  

    Travis is a graduate of Michigan Technological University.  After college, Travis played hockey professionally, signing a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers his first year.   Travis is currently working toward his associate’s in risk management.      



Loss Control 

  • Bob Staple

    Loss Control Representative
    Email Bob Staple
    Bob Staple serves as the loss control representative for the Upper Peninsula. He joined SET SEG in 2005 after more than 36 years of experience in public schools as a teacher, coach and administrator. Prior to joining SET SEG, Bob was superintendent of Breitung Township School District in Kingsford.

    Bob is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and has a master’s degree from Northern Michigan University

  • Darlene Wood

    Loss Control Consultant
    Email Darlene Wood
    Darlene Wood is a loss control consultant for members of the MASB-SEG Property/Casualty Pool and SEG Self-insurer Workers’ Compensation Fund. She has been actively involved in providing several trainings, including: ergonomics, equipment guarding, accident investigation and evaluation, hazards control and industrial hygiene testing for noise and air contaminants.  Prior to joining SET SEG in 2008, Darlene worked for multiple insurance companies as a risk control consultant.  Darlene is a Certified Playground Inspector with more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry.  She is a graduate of Michigan State University.
  • Gus Kihlstrand

    Loss Control Consultant

    Gus Kihlstrand has served as a loss control consultant for members of the MASB-SEG Property/Casualty Pool and SEG Self-Insurer Workers’ Compensation Fund since 1994. Gus has more than 25 years of experience serving as a loss control consultant for school districts, having worked for Corporate Services, Incorporated prior to joining SET SEG.  Gus is a Certified Playground Inspector and graduated from Lansing Community College with an associate’s degree.
  • Mike Grosso

    Loss Control Consultant
    Email Mike Grosso

    Mike Grosso has served as a loss control consultant for members of the MASB-SEG Property/Casualty Pool and SEG Self-Insurer Workers’ Compensation Fund since 2006. He is a certified playground inspector and ergonomic technician. He has completed several courses to help members implement best practices including occupational safety and health administration compliance and record-keeping.

    Prior to joining SET SEG, Mike served as a loss control consultant for Indiana Insurance. He is a graduate of Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. Mike volunteers as a men’s coordinator at his church.

  • Skip Barclay

    Loss Control Representative

    Skip Barclay is a loss control representative for members of the MASB-SEG Property/Casualty Pool and SEG Self-Insurer Workers’ Compensation Fund. He joined SET SEG in 2012. Skip is a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) and a licensed solicitor.
