Fergin Scholarship
The Fergin Scholarship was created to honor the legacy of a valued SET SEG team member and aims to support students with financial need as they pursue their higher education goals. The SET SEG Foundation is proud to provide assistance and resources for students working to better themselves in preparation for their future careers.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a Michigan resident.
- Must be a high school senior attending a Michigan public school or student at a Michigan college, university, or accredited vocational program.
- Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a 2- or 4- year college, university, or accredited vocational program.
Awards
- Annual scholarships each in the amount of $1,000-$2,500 will be awarded and can be renewed until graduation or up to four years
- Scholarship funds will be dispersed directly to stated college, university, or accredited vocational program.
Timeline
- Applications opens on November 3, 2025.
- Deadline is March 16, 2026.
Award Notification
- Scholarship winners will be notified by the end of April 2026.
- As a condition of acceptance, scholarship winners will be asked to sign a SET SEG Foundation release form for the purpose of announcing the scholarship recipients via the website, social media, and publications.

ABOUT ALAN L. FERGIN, 1946-2021
Alan Fergin was an integral member of SET SEG for nearly 40 years, serving as Chief Administrator of the Workers’ Compensation Fund and Property/Casualty Pool from 2004 until his retirement in 2016. After his ALS diagnosis in 2018, Alan remained a loyal, respected advisor for the SET SEG executive team until his final months. Alan was a respected leader in the organization who contributed ideas, processes, and procedures that would shape SET SEG’s future development. Alan was an exemplary team member and mentor and was a bright spot in the conservative world of insurance. He is remembered for his passionate leadership, knowledge, industry influence, and unique brand of humor.
